WHAT IS THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL?
A youth-led group of high school students in the Yakima Valley creating a positive impact through philanthropy and leadership. The program includes monthly meetings to strengthen nonprofit, leadership, and equity awareness. With the guidance of YVCF staff and community members, the YLC will make grant funding recommendations to local nonprofits for a total of $50k in 2020.
YLC MEMBERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

Develop leadership and communication skills.

Meet other young leaders from the Valley.

Provide a unique perspective and discuss issues facing the community.

Increase awareness of local community programs and nonprofits.

Volunteer and earn community service hours.

Receive a stipend for transportation costs.

Share a meal with other students provided by YVCF.
HOW DO I APPLY/JOIN JYLC?
Complete and submit the online application found HERE that includes three short essay questions by December 16th, 2019. The program is available to Yakima Valley high school students.
Responses to each question should be no longer than 250 words but a minimum of 100 words. Essay questions include:
- Why would you like to serve on the Youth Leadership Council?
- Describe something you appreciate about your community and something you would like to change about your community
- Name two things you are most proud of? Why?
The selected students will be notified by December 19th, 2019.
MEETING SCHEDULE & DETAILS:
Bi-weekly afterschool meetings from Jan – May and two monthly meetings in June and July for a total of 12 meetings with an additional all-day retreat in the Spring. The full meeting schedule includes some alternative meeting dates as needed depending on student needs:

Meetings are two hours long with the flexibility of being from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm or 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, depending on students’ needs and travel time.
The majority of the meetings will be at the Yakima Valley Community Foundation’s conference room (111 University Parkway, STE 102, Yakima, WA 98901) but periodically meet in school campuses or community centers if available.
