Granger Middle School " Every Child, Every Seat, Every Day"
The grant award was used to purchase incentives/awards for students making perfect attendance in each quarter or the school year and incentives/awards for those getting perfect attendance throughout the entire school year as stated in the grant application. Specifically, the funding was used to purchase vouchers pizza/activities from Doc’s On the Green and family movie passes from the Grand Cinemas of Yakima Valley for the quarterly incentives. For perfect attendance throughout the school year, the funding was used to purchase items such as iPads, tablets, and other electronics devices that are currently popular. We did not purchase gifts cards to give out to the parents as stated in the original application. Instead, we purchased incentive/awards that encouraged family involvement such as family movie passes.
In the original application we stated that the grant funding would help reduce school dropouts, decrease truancy rates, increase academic achievement, and promote on-time graduation increasing the socioeconomic status of the community. We can certainly say that this grant funding played a part in decreasing the truancy/unexcused absence rates. Our district has become a leader on how to reduce unexcused absences in the state. The incentives help build this culture, but the combination of all programs leads to a sustained culture of good habits that will accompany them through their lifetime.
