What is a Community Foundation?

Building and strengthening community. Bringing together people and organizations that want to make a difference. That’s what community foundations are all about.

Community Foundations are tax-exempt philanthropic public charities dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities they serve.  There are approximately 800 community foundations across the United States.

Individuals, families, businesses and organizations work with community foundations to create permanent charitable funds that meet the challenges important to them. For donors, community foundations offer a range of charitable giving options that provide tax benefits and strategic advice about philanthropy. Funds come from a variety of sources, including bequests, living trusts and charitable funds. These funds are pooled for investment purposes and the earnings distributed to the worthy organizations or causes for which they were established.
